For more armored mobs you can should use heavier ammo as it increases armor penetration but can normally be replaced by sheer number of bolts spewing from a max drawspeed crossbow. If thaumium is not an option it can be replaced by paper for mod space fitting an extra autorepair or a cheap high durability material.
